Description
This is a special neck position pickup, modeled after an odd “mistake” that Fender decided to install in a Jazz bass and sell in 1963. 1963 again – what’s up with that?!
Anyway, a friend of mine bought the bass new, played it for years and years until one day not long ago the neck pickup went dead. Thankfully he brought it to me! Upon inspection, the inside dimensions were considerably shorter than normal and on par with a Telecaster bridge pickup. After gutting, cleaning up the bobbin, and rewinding with 42 Plain Enamel to a typical spec for the year – pure gold! It leans the neck pickup tone to a really pleasing mixture of both P bass styles, making it punchy and fat with a more even character than the traditional J bass neck pickup. Hand-beveled Alnico 5 magnets, cloth push-back lead wire, and a cloth tape finish. Black cover and mounting screws included.
